Bobbin' Around

Well, I did it. After years of admiring all the trendy bobs on the likes of Kiera Knightly, Emma Stone, and Cameron Diaz, I finally developed the gumption to have the hair-dresser full-on chop my hair.

Admittedly, the last time I went in, this is secretly what I wanted. But, like every girl who is about to chop her long locks off for the first time, I was scared. And I knew a certain man in my life wouldn't take it too well if I went short on the first go. So that became the trial run, acting as the way to ease everyone into what I really wanted.

The bob.

And you know what, it's sassy and fun and professional. It isn't the Victoria Beckham mom bob, and it isn't the Julie Bowen mom bob. It's perfect for me.

So I think I am going to try it out for a while.

Closures and Coats

Well. Here we are. It's December. I've neglected my blog for yet another month.

It isn't for lack of inspiration, though. I had grand plans to participate in the scarves, coats, and boots #thriftstylethursday posts of the past month. But a few things happened that made posting a last priority:

1) Snow that turned into slush that turned into rain that turned into ice. I love the snow. I love the sleet. I don't like taking pictures in it.

2) Work got really busy - and that's awesome! But it meant that my thursdays became extremely lazy.

3) My sister and I bought my mom a puppy for her birthday. It's hard to find the time to update when the puppy is JUST SO DARN CUTE! If you follow my instagram, you've seen pictures of Pippa galore. She's adorbs. So adorbs that I had to use shortened words just to prove how truly adorbs she is.

Moving on.

I found out recently that my favourite store on the planet, Smart Set, is going to be closing down by the end of 2015. Owned by the Reitmans corp, it's part of the same Canadian fashion chain that also supports RW&Co and Penningtons. It stands alone from the beautiful, albeit short hemlines of Dynamite and H&M, and its a classy look without having to fork away one's dollars to Zara, Banana Republic, or Le Chateau (which are all beautiful stores, but pricey).

When I don't thrift, Smart Set is my go-to place for professional fashion. I love it. And I am so sad to see it go. It's the second major Canadian clothing retailer to disappear from the fashion landscape in the last two years (the Montreal based Jacob franchises being the other), and I am sure it won't be the last.

It's just so hard to find affordable class.

That being said, this AMAZING Aztec patterned coat is from Suzy Shier, another fan favourite of mine. I saw it and I had to have it.

Thrift Style Thursday // Pinspired

A few weeks ago I picked up this pair of burgundy straight leg skinnies from Suzy Shier for $26. I've been seeing jewel tones all over Pinterest, and I am thankful that hues of the most vibrant and rich colours are back in our wardrobes. These pants also offered the perfect base for Pinterest inspired everything.

In my case, everything but the pants are thrifted: pleather and zippered Ricki's jacket? Salvation Army; striped Olsen tank and vintage waist belt? Talize; 80s black leather vintage Hudson's Bay boots? Value Village. It's quite the turn around from last week's TST, isn't it.

Sadly, though, I don't have a lot to say about this outfit other than the boots still smell of leather, and I have the exact shade of lipstick to match the pants.

Maybe it's that I don't feel the need to justify my choices to fit the theme - each item is pretty self-explanatory. As such, my sass seems to have disappeared. What if this is a sign?! What if my blogging sass comes from breaking rules and stretching themes and when all is said and done and I have followed the rules exactly, my humour, nay, my personality, falls into line too?

And here I was under the impression that it had something to do with my haircut.

Ah well, live and learn Pinteresters, live and learn.

Thrift Style Thursday // Sporty Chic

I'm not a sporty girl. Never have been. Never will be. My ideal workout is none at all, and the only sport I will ever get a gold metal in (should it exist) is the sport of yarn works.

When I think sporty chic, I think about Columbia Sportswear (do you folks have that in the USA?) and Nike. I don't think 'oh hey, this is a style I would really like to blog about.' It isn't even a style I venture to wear. So for today, I am keeping it simple: slouchy tank and jeggings. That's sporty, right?

I also have a confession to make about this week's outfit. There is only one item that was actually thrifted, and it is the least sporty thing of all: the necklace. I am not going to try and apologize for this, because I have to say, sometimes reusing what is already in your closet is the best way to be thrifty (I believe Pinterest calls this 'upcycling'). Buying new should mean buying versatile and quality items that will take your closet through the years.

Thus, earth tone jeggings from AE, a classic grey cardigan from Suzy, and genuine leather "peter pan getaway" shooties (bootie and shoe put together? Who knew?!) from Aldo may not have been thrifted, but they are staples. As for that H&M slouchy racerback tank ... it was passed on to me from Nick's sister this weekend after she very intensely closet purged.

I also scored a pair of once-worn Steve Madden gladiators. But we'll save those for another time.

Thanks for stopping in, friends! Hope you have a wonderful Thursday. Don't forget to check out the other lovely and thrifty gals! They'll be happy to see you.
