Thrift Style Thursday: Brilliant Blazers

It would be the case that the weather gods decide that, on the day I photoshoot for the blazer instalment of TST, it would be the hottest day in May - with 88% humidity. It's like they want me to preface every blog entry with a weather report; is my life so completely dictated by Mother Nature that I can't even open a basic outfit post without first going over why my fashion decisions are soley based upon the whims of non-existent dieties controlling rainfall? Yeesh. I need new material.

Anyways, at least it explains why the already 3/4 length sleeves on this thrifted Banana Republic blazer  are rolled up, and why I am carrying it in more than half the photographs. It was honestly too humid to keep it on. I could feel the soft lining adhering to my arms. It was no fault of the blazer - it simply wasn't blazer weather.

If you haven't figured this out about me, yet: I love neutrals. I don't accent with colour. I accent with safe, earth toned pieces that calm down my navies, or pinks, or patterns. I could have paired this dress with a coral blazer (albeit finding one without shoulder pads proved difficult), or a muted yellow blazer, or even a blazer with a little more sparkle. That would have been fashion forward. That would have been adventurous.

But, unless the fit was a 20 out of 10 on the Brittany approval scale of all things fashion, I probably would have returned it to the thrift store.

Instead, I invested in a more versatile neutral. The 3/4 length sleeves makes it (usually) ideal for spring. The structure of the blazer makes it a good transitional piece for fall. When I thrift, I look for items that will be useful to my wardrobe beyond just a fad. Blazers are one of those items. A good blazer will take you through every season respectably.

Even those humid Ontario summers. And springs.
