Summer Bag Essentials; and, the FIFA market bag

In the spirit of beach weather, some of my lovely blogging friends and I have put together a post hop outlining our favourite beach bag essentials for the summer month.

So let's begin with the beach bag itself. Readers, I'd like you to meet 'Hup', the latest instalment in the crochet diaries, and now available in my Etsy store.

June marks the beginning of FIFA 2014. I don't know about your city, but it's a pretty big deal around my hometown. The population is about 50% Dutch, and 50% Portuguese, so things get pretty heated.

I wanted to get in on the festivities, so I made this crochet market bag for myself. Realistically, it is about the most useful thing I have ever created. It is slouchy, and strong, and was designed to function as purse/beach bag/grocery tote. I wanted to support the country of my ancestry. 'Hup' was born.

The thing is, woman cannot survive summer with bag alone. So, below I have also compiled a collage of some of my current favourites/lusts/should be in your bag items.
hat, Target (here// It's all about hats this season, and my suggestion is to go for a floppy one!
towel, Target (here) // I love the design on this vibrant beach towel!
sunglasses, Warby Parker (here) // Oversized Minnie style sunglasses to match the vintage vibes.
coverup, The Bay (here) // Starting to burn? Put this on!
book, Indigo (here) // Leonard Cohen's poetry - light reading for the afternoon.
deodorant and sunscreen // These are no brainers. Aveeno and Secret have some great scents and are super sensitive on skin. Apply both - especially after each swim!

Remember to leave any jewelry - including earrings - on your dresser at home. You don't want to lose any special pieces or have to worry about taking off your watch before jumping in the pool.
Also, always drink water. I am hugely into fruit infused water right now. My favourite is lemon-raspberry. You can prep that by putting 4 raspberries and half a lemon (sliced) in a reusable bottle overnight.

I also strongly suggest leaving the makeup at home. It's the beach/pool, not a fashion show. You don't want to have racoon eyes after a trip in the pool. And you don't want to have to constantly reapply your makeup.
And that's it!
Thanks so much for stopping in! As always, follow along by clicking the icons below or at the side of my page. Don't forget to pop over to all the other lovely ladies who have taken part in this beach/pool bag essentials hop.

    1. Ha, 'Hup' actually means 'go' in dutch. Holland is the team - my boys in orange!

I hope you love the water! Nick and I planted orange mint and chocolate mint this year. We'll start throwing that in too when it's ready to be picked. :)

  7. I am obsessed with fruit water right now. I want to get one of those infusers that keep the fruit in a separate compartment so you don't get all of the seeds. Lemon water (a classic) is my favorite.
