Thrift Style Thursday: Basically, Belle

How much does that blurry photo of me frollicking and twirling about remind you of the opening scene of The Sound of Music?! Isn't it great? It's everything I could ever want in a skirt. It's a touch of Julie Andrews. It's a touch of Anne Shirley. It's a touch of Audrey Hepburn. It's Belle coming over the mountain as she longs for adventure in the great wide somewhere. Oh baby, this skirt is love.

Today's TST theme is wardrobe basics. I thought a long time about this one. Originally, I wanted to sport a little black dress or a simple pair of skinnies with a white flowy tank; however, besides not finding either of those on my thrifting adventures, I realized that when it comes to wardrobe basics, a flowy skirt, fun pumps, and a plain tank top is more basic to my own closet than either a black dress or jeans.

I fell in love with this skirt the second I found it, and I knew exactly how I wanted to style it. Right now, it's missing some statement jewelry because, well, who wants to twirl in bulky necklaces, really...? I also found those amazing blue Liz Claiborne pumps that I know will get some spectacular use for summertime weddings (tis the season, right?)

Thrifting basics is easy. All you need to know is what you are most likely to wear. While thrifting can be fun to embellish your closet with all the things you want to wear but can't justify buying new (just in case you don't actually wear it), it's also a great way to stock up on those items you wear most. For me, that means skirts and fun shoes. For you, it might mean jeans and a flowy blouse.

The best thing to do is this: Go in to the store with an idea of what you're looking for. Evidently, I was looking for something that would make me feel like Belle, or Anne, or Maria. Success was mine.

And it can be yours too, if you just look.

**Also: Friends, I am wearing a sock in my hair. Nick thought it was the funniest thing that I had actually used a sock (you're supposed to, right?) for a sock bun. It was clean, and grey, and made my hair look 20x thicker than it actually is. Win.

    1. Thanks, Justine! I totally thought wearing a sock in my hair would be a lot weirder than it actually is. I think I may have found my new basic hairstyle.

You have such wonderful hair, so I am sure they look much better on you! :)
