Thrift Style Thursday: Style Resolutions

It's a new year.

Does anyone else feel like they've been blindsided by 2015? Or is that just me? Lately, I've been feeling like time is going at light speed and I can't find any way to catch up. Days are whirlwinds and the next thing I know, it's going to be 2016 and I'll have accomplished nothing.

So, it's time to set some goals. Our lovely host of this week's TST challenge, Zhenya, wanted us all to make style resolutions for this coming year. I want to take that one further - lifestyle affects my fashion choices, so I'm going to make some resolutions that incorporate both.

And I want you guys to hold me to it.

1) I want to get healthy. Nick and I have made the commitment to go to the gym together 2 times a week (for those of you just tuning in, Nick is my lovely boyfriend of almost two years). I have no interest in being a size two, but it would be nice to develop a lifestyle that incorporates looking after the health of my muscles.

2) I want to eat right. I have a nasty habit of running out on my breaks to pick up lunch from the local coffee shop. Soup and sandwiches are wonderful, but all that processed meat is not good. Here and now I make the commitment to add more greens, more nuts, and more fruit into my diet.

3) I am going to be very intentional about what I thrift. Unfortunately, Poshmark isn't in Canada yet, so I can't justify those whim thrift buys by reselling them. Instead, I need to be smart about what I am buying, and why. If it's just to fit a thrift theme - pass. It needs to work with my life.

4) I am going to wear more skirts. I work at a home design store. We sell high-end furniture and appliances. I need to find a way to make my wardrobe professional, yet age appropriate. This may involve ditching the business suit look (not that I wear these anyways) and investing in a new midi skirt. Stay tuned to find out if this actually happens.

5) I am going to wear plaid. Because - simply put - Nick's a farmer at heart. I don't love how plaid looks on me, but I am going to need to wear it. Consider that my style challenge for 2015. I will learn to love plaid.

Now, after all that reading, I wanted to share the most difficult (and hilarious) part of posting for TST: A puppy who never leaves you alone.

I think the photo below sums up how it feels to snap photos of yourself sometimes.

  2. You're going to have so much fun with plaid... and good luck with your healthier lifestyle! Once you make the switch, you'll never want to go back. Change can be hard, but keep your chin up and your smile wide.

P.S. Blue is really quite lovely on you.

    1. Thanks for the encouragement, Elizabeth! The lifestyle choice is really a throwback to a healthier time in my life - I lived in the Vancouver area, British Columbia, where I walked uphill all the time and ate less red meat. I am really looking forward to getting back at it! :)

  3. These are some great goals! I'm working on the getting in shape thing too, been hard to get back into a groove since having my son last year. And I LOVE plaid, I'm happy to help you with plaid, lol! Your puppy is adorable!!

    1. We'll keep each other going - on the plaid and the getting in shape! I'm starting from scratch at the gym (Nick had a trainer last year, so he's teaching me). Definitely looking forward to accomplishing some of these goals.

  4. I, too, am wary about plaid. I like it; I'm just not completely sure whether it likes me.
And I also have a puppy who makes in-home photo shoots a challenge! Gotta love 'em!
