#ThriftStyleThursday: An Unexpected Match

I thrift with intention. It's hard for me to come home with items that are unexpected and out of character for me. I believe that the best closets are made with pieces that are classic and functional, and don't speak simply of 'fast fashion.'

This week's theme, "An Unexpected Match", was chosen by Martyna of Spoolish and was meant for us thrifty gals to showcase our unexpected finds - those items that don't fit our normal thrifty bill. But, because I don't add things to my closet that I haven't been looking for, I really had to scour my closet for an outfit that would suit the theme.

That was when I remembered these Target brand cropped patterned jeans that I purchased for a whopping $3.00 from a liquidation store last summer. I've had trouble finding a reason to wear them in this cold Canadian season, and with my journey to a healthier body weight, they don't fit as well as I'd like anymore, but they were a completely unmeditated purchase. I bought them because they were $3.00 and I had nothing like them in my closet. I didn't know if I'd ever wear them, or if I'd even grow to love them, but I figured that, if they were there, staring at me with their bright hues of blue, that I'd have to find some way to incorporate them into my weekly outfit routines.

Which worked, until the snow hit.

All this to say, this post may be these cropped pant's last hurrah. I don't think I'll be able to make them work for the spring - I'm not handy with a sewing machine, and I don't like to wear things that no longer fit.

So, farewell pants. You were definitely unexpected.

  2. I've definitely bought a few things like that, at least you got to take em out for one spin (and a blog post) before tossing them!

    1. :) I think every woman has bought something she tried and then realized wouldn't work. I probably meant to blog these last year when I bought them and forgot. Note to self: do not buy clothes just to blog about them... :P

  3. I think it's good to shake up our wardrobe every once in a while with something "unexpected" - it makes us reevaluate our style and what we really want to wear and say with our clothes. Or at least it does me haha! At the very least, it's good to step outside our comfort zones and try something new, but, yeah, when something doesn't fit it's time to say good-bye! :)

    1. I agree. And you know, I really did like these pants the first few times I wore them - but they just don't fit properly anymore. I think my style's evolved into something less fashion forward and more classic. I'm okay with that. :)

  4. Until recently, I had a very definite (if limited) style, and I stuck to it. But I've been stepping outside my comfort zone a lot since joining the TST ladies, and most of time I've been really pleased with the outcome. Sometimes, not so much, but hey, you can't say you don't like something if you've never tried it! I'm glad you gave these pants a chance, even if you'll never wear them again.

And kudos on the weight loss! That may be the best reason to get rid of ill-fitting clothes.

    1. Thanks, Carissa! I've definitely noticed your outfits get more and more adventurous, and I think that's very cool. I remember when I started with Thrift Style Thursday, it really encouraged me to step outside my usual and also allowed my wardrobe to evolve with my job and my personality. And yes, getting rid of pants that are too big are always rewarding. :)

  7. Those pants are so fun! It's too bad they don't fit anymore. At least you got one last awesome outfit with them - they look great paired with the yellow sweater. PS - I love the new blog name! :)
